Dr. Maji Hailemariam, PhD

an Assistant Professor at Michigan State University, College of Human Medicine, Charles Stewart Mott Department of Public Health.

Dr. Hailemariam is a Mental Health Epidemiologist, a researcher and advocate for equitable mental health care globally. Her research interests include mental health care for underserved populations in low-resource settings including within high-income countries. Her research focuses on developing lay provider or peer provider-delivered mental health interventions to improve access to mental health services, improve functioning and reduce mental health symptoms. Her research is guided by understanding barriers to mental health care that are disproportionately experienced by undeserved populations including perinatal women, rural residents, and justice-involved individuals in low-resource settings.

Dr. Henock B. Taddese

Imperial College London, School of Public Health

Dr Henock B. Taddese is a Senior Teaching Fellow in Public Health and Co-Director of the Master of Public Health (MPH) Programme at Imperial College London. He has studied public heath in Ethiopia, the UK and Denmark. He obtained his PhD from the School of Health and Related Research (ScHARR), University of Sheffield, where he explored the roles and influences of Global Public Private Partnerships in advancing global health goals, through an in-depth analysis of the work of the Global Fund for AIDS, TB and Malaria in Ethiopia.

Dr. Gelila Solomon

Gelila is a medical doctor who graduated from Addis Ababa University College of Health Sciences. Upon graduation, Gelila worked as a primary care physician at Lalibela Hospital. And over the years Gelila has worked in various capacities within the healthcare setting. Throughout her career, Gelila saw how the most basic things are inaccessible to many people and how lack of proper food and simple medications cost lives. So, to improve the way healthcare is financed, Gelila founded the Tilaye program: a program that channels corporate social responsibility initiatives into healthcare projects. She did the pilot project for the program at Yirgalem General Hospital on Child malnutrition.

We aim to acheive

  1. To increase the versatility of health care professionals in terms of applying scientific research to health care practice
  2. To create a platform where healthcare professionals can initiate their pursuit of academic research
  3. To establish a network of Ethiopian researchers and create a lasting learning and information exchange platform
  4. To create a space where healthcare professionals can showcase their research endeavors and get inspired 
  5. To foster recognition in the commercial and business world and to encourage key stakeholders and business entities to invest in scientific research
