Frequently Asked Questions

What type of submissions are we looking for?

We are looking for research abstracts that are translatable or that solve specific problems in the health care setup.

What is included in the research fellowship?

Once the submissions are collected, an independent selection committee will shortlist 20 finalists who will be further narrowed down to 5 winners who will receive the cash prize. However, all 20 finalists will take advantage of mentorship from our network of outstanding Ethiopian researchers, and they will also have access to exclusive webinars on research topics that are curated by educators and experts from world-renowned universities.

Would there be assistance during the conduction of the research project for the winners?

Yes. The fellowship includes assistance and follow-up during the duration of the research project. This includes assistance with IRB approval, framing the research project, final write-up of the research, and the publication of the research project.

What are the stages of selection from the selection of finalists to the winners of the cash prize?

The 20 finalists will be evaluated based on their performance on the webinars, their ability to apply the knowledge/skill to their research project, and their progress with their faculty and external mentors.

Who will be the mentors?

The research fellowship will be conducted with a continuous partnership with Black Lion Hospital and St. Paul Millennium Medical College as agreed upon in the MOU. These hospitals will provide one faculty mentor for each finalist. Yetena Weg then provides external mentors from its network of Ethiopian researchers whose research area of interest aligns with the research project.
