Professor Miliard Derbew is a professor of pediatrics surgery at the College of Health Sciences, Addis Ababa University and adjunct professor in UniversityToronto surgical department and Wilson center. He is the principal investigator for Medical Education Partnership Initiative Junior Faculty project for Ethiopia, MEPI-JF and Health Education Partnership initiative HEPI. He was the principal investigator of Medical Education Partnership (MEPI) project, a five years (2010– 2015) project, which was a consortium of four medical schools in Ethiopia and five universities in the United States, focused on building institutional capacity.

Etana is an ACPE certified hopsital chaplain with several years of experience in multi-faith religious/spiritual services including, end of life care and grief counseling, trauma/crisis management, palliative care/hospice care, and neonatal bereavement. He also leads initiatives to improve patient outcomes through effective data tracking in spiritual care services. He offers education/training to psychiatric residents on topics such as compassionate bedside care, self-care for caregivers and social-cultural issues while caring for complicated persons. He currently works at a trauma hospital in Colorado, USA.
